The Introduction of Continuous Converting Furnace 

   Continuous converting furnace likes a fixed reverberatory furnace that set vent pipe on the side wall, its work way: supply continuous air on both sides; intermittently add copper sulfur, release slag and crude copper regularly. Continuous converting furnace belongs to converting equipment of fixed reverberatory furnace, also because installing cooling water jacket in the outlet area, the life of furnace lining has improved. 

    Due to the simple equipment, less investment and high construction speed, continuous converting furnace has been used in a number of small copper smelter. Its technical indicators: the capacity processing copper sulfur is 5.6~7t/㎡;blast pressure is 0.0~0.2MPa;the operating temperature in copper sulfur converting area is 1150~1250°C; crude copper’s temperature is about 1100°C; flue gas’s temperature is about 1000°C; the concentration of SO2 in flue gas is 7％~10％;crude copper’s grade is 98.5％;the rate of copper in slag is 2％~4.5％;metal recovery efficiency is 88.5％~91％.          

    Continuous air supply in Continuous converting furnace makes the fuel gas volume stable, the concentration of SO2 in flue gas high, creates favorable conditions for flue gas to produce vitriol. 

    1. Furnace bottom There is gap between furnace bottom and foundation, the height is below 350mm, overhead use refractory fireclay blocks. 

    2. Furnace wall Internal furnace wall is piled up with magnesite-chrome bricks, the thickness is about 500mm.External is wrapped with cast iron plates or low-carbon steel plates. There install steel blowpipe on both sides of the furnace wall. To prolong the life of the furnace wall, we directly install the cooling water jacket outside the magnesite-chrome wall of tuyere area to enhance the cooling effect. At present, during the production practice, furnace’s life can up to 90~100 days, but some plants just reach 38~60 days.

    3. Furnace top Continuous converting furnace chamber’s width is small, usually build vault with bricks. In converting area, due to the washing and erosion of splash melt, the roof firebrick of this area suffered serious damage.

    4. Others In the condition of copper sulfur grade suitable, continuous converting furnace can maintain self-heating converting, but considering that open, repair or possible supply shortage of copper and sulfur maybe can’t maintain a normal temperature for temper, we set fuel burner in the end wall of converting area and add heat to furnace for the accident, to hold or raise temperature.
